His Love for Animals Lives On

Jeff Knopow was an animal lover all his life. Supporting Humane Society Silicon Valley for well over 30 years, he was also committed to ensuring his support beyond his lifetime. While on a tour of HSSV in 2019, Jeff shared that he loved all animals but had a particular fondness for dogs. Some of his golden retrievers and cocker spaniels were adopted from HSSV, and his home displayed paintings of his beloved pets.

“He loved dogs, and dogs LOVED him,” his wife, Cathy Kong, remembers. Jeff was a loving caretaker to his dogs, most of whom ended up having health issues. “Jeff was low-key, and he always liked to help others, both people and animals,” Cathy shares.

Upon Jeff’s retirement, she suggested he volunteer at HSSV. Knowing his own soft heart and deep compassion for animals, Jeff declined because, as Cathy says, “he was afraid he’d bring all the animals home with him!”

Jeff Knopow with dogGiving to HSSV made Jeff feel he was part of a community of people who cared about our important mission. He often offered to help when we had specific needs that required additional funding. After battling cancer a few times over his life, Jeff sadly passed away in 2021. He thoughtfully planned for the future and included HSSV as a 20% beneficiary of his IRA, resulting in a six-figure gift that has enabled us to rescue, rehabilitate, and find homes for innumerable dogs in need.

By simply naming HSSV as a beneficiary in his retirement account, Jeff continues to care for innumerable animals at HSSV today and in the years ahead.
